FourCC - The first four letters of a video that tells Windows which codec the video contains.

You can use a Video Tool such as afreeCodecVT to determine the FourCC of a video. If the codec is properly installed, the video will play just fine.

If you already know which codec is required to view the video, then determining the FourCC is not much of importance. However its always a good idea to be sure your searching for the right codec.
