Finding codecs online can be very stressfull depending on how rare the codec is. In either case, here are the steps to see if your codec is on the internet.

Click here if you are unsure what codec you need.

First check to see if your codec is available for download on afreeCodec.com.
afreeCodec - Audio & Video codecs for windows, linux and mac.
Check to see what resources are available at the codec library.
Codec Library - Download locations and resources for over 500 codecs.
Search for the FourCC and the Codec. Often you will find alot of documentation with the fourcc to help your search.
Check the Digital Digest forums to see if your codec has been previously found. You should also submit your codec request in the codec category. Average response time is 24 - 48 hours.
Use the suggested search engines to further your search reach...
Google, Microsoft Live, Yahoo, Dogpile, Mamma, Excite
Search the p2p networks using p2p software. Another person may have found the codec and is allowing others to download it as well.

If you still have had no luck, we suggest trying a codec pack. This may solve your codec issue once and for all.

We always suggest this as a last resort because you may end up installing many codecs you do not need. In rare situations installing codec packs could make situations worse.
